Premium Pin-Drafted Shetland Wool Roving, Homegrown Natural Colors 4 oz.

This roving begins with sheep we know and care for on our farm in Durango, Colorado. We hand-pluck (roo) or shear each sheep ourselves, then carefully skirt every fleece before taking it to our local mill for processing.

We were thrilled with the beautiful, lofty pin-drafted roving our mill created from our Shetland wool! These 4 oz hanks of premium Shetland roving are a delight to spin and work with. The pin-drafting process makes drafting the wool a dream!

We have been breeding our flock of heritage Shetland sheep for over 16 years, selecting for soft fleeces with a good handle and staple length.

Color Notes:

• Cream: From our brown katmoget (badger) sheep, such as Oakley, Nola, and Pandora. This wool was almost exclusively rooed. It is a warm white with occasional brown fibers running through it.
• Light gray: From our gray and gray katmoget (badger) sheep, such as Laura, Picard, and Phoenix.
• Moorit: From our brown sheep, Juniper and Bjorn.
• Shaela: From our black and shaela (charcoal) sheep, such as Fiona, Frankie, and Leia. 

We sustainably produce this wool on our three-generation family farm, using rotational grazing, organically produced hay, solar power, non-lethal predator control, and organic methods.

We are participating providers with the Shave 'em to Save 'em program from the Livestock Conservancy, and our Shetland roving qualifies for a passport sticker (please request a sticker if interested).

A Note about Natural Colors: We do our best to represent our colors as accurately as possible, but your monitor or screen settings may affect how they appear. This is a natural, undyed product from sheep whose fleeces grow and change each year. Each year's harvest is unique in shade and tone, so we cannot guarantee an exact color match between orders.
